About Header & footer

Header & footer adds running text to the top and bottom of pages: a document title, a company name, Confidential, the date or the file name, along with page numbers. Three slots at each edge (left, centre and right) cover most layouts.

Use it to add a header to a PDF, put a footer with page numbers or the date on every page, or label a document with its file name.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Type the text for each slot you need. Use {n} for the page number, {total} for the number of pages, {date} for today's date and {file} for the file name.
  3. Set the font size, margin and colour.
  4. Press Add header & footer and download.

Good to know

  • Placeholders are filled in page by page, so a footer like Page {n} of {total} numbers itself.
  • Leave a slot empty to keep that part of the page clear.

Questions and answers

Can I add the date to every page?

Yes. Type {date} into any header or footer slot.

Can I have different text on the left and right?

Yes. Each edge has a left, centre and right slot.

Will it cover existing text?

Headers and footers are drawn on top, inside the margin you set. Increase the margin if your document's own content runs close to the edge.

Can I skip the first page?

Yes. Limit the pages, for example to 2-.
