Guide

About Edit PDF

Most online PDF editors let you draw on top of a page. This one also changes what is already there. Click a line of text in the PDF and retype it: the editor rebuilds the line in its original font, at its original size and colour, so the correction looks like it was always part of the document. Original images can be moved, resized, rotated, cropped or swapped for another picture.

On top of that you have the tools you expect: text boxes, shapes, images, tables, links, highlights, sticky notes, checkboxes and signatures, plus a Layers panel to put anything in front of or behind anything else. Everything happens in your browser, so contracts and personal documents never leave your device.

Use it as a free PDF editor to edit text in a PDF, change words in a contract, add an image or logo, sign a PDF, fill in a PDF form, or add links and notes, all online and without installing anything.

How to use it

  1. Choose PDF, or drag a file onto the page.
  2. Click any text, image or shape to select it. Double-click text to edit it.
  3. Use the toolbar to add text, shapes, images, tables, signatures, notes, ticks and checkboxes. To link, underline, strike through or highlight, select some text first, then click the button.
  4. Arrange overlapping objects in the Layers panel, and undo or redo any step.
  5. Press Download to save the edited PDF, or download a flattened copy.

Good to know

  • Retyped text uses the font already in the PDF when it contains the letters you type. If not, the line switches to the closest bundled font and you are told.
  • Typing new text works for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic scripts. Lines in scripts such as Hindi or Arabic can be moved, recoloured or deleted, but not retyped yet.
  • Whiteout covers content but leaves it in the file. To remove information for good, use Redact.
  • Signatures added here are pictures of your signature, not certificate-based digital signatures.
  • Your work is autosaved in this browser, so you can pick up where you left off if the tab closes.

Questions and answers

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

Yes. Double-click a line, retype it and press Enter. You can also change its size, colour, bold, italic and underline, and move it anywhere on the page.

Will the edited text keep the original font?

Yes, whenever the font embedded in the PDF has the letters you type. If it does not, the line switches to the closest matching bundled font, and the editor tells you.

Can I sign a PDF with this editor?

Yes. Draw your signature, type it, or upload a picture of it, then place it on the page. It is a visual signature, not a certified digital signature.

Is the PDF editor free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark on your downloads and no limit on how many files you edit.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The document is opened and edited by code running in your browser, and the edited file is saved straight to your device.

What if I make a mistake?

Undo and redo every step from the toolbar or with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z (Cmd on a Mac). Your original file is never changed.
