About Flatten PDF

Flatten PDF turns comments, highlights and filled-in form fields into ordinary page content. Use it when sending a completed form, so the answers cannot be changed, or when a printer or another app does not show annotations properly.

Use it to flatten a PDF form, lock filled-in fields so they cannot be changed, or merge annotations into the page.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Press Flatten.
  3. Download the flattened copy.

Good to know

  • Form fields keep their filled-in values but can no longer be edited.
  • Links keep working after flattening.

Questions and answers

What does flattening a PDF mean?

Annotations and form fields become part of the page itself: they look the same but can no longer be edited or removed separately.

Why should I flatten a filled-in form?

So the answers cannot be changed after you send it, and so they show correctly in every viewer and printer.

Can I undo flattening?

Not in the flattened file. Keep the original if you might need to edit the form again.

Do links survive flattening?

Yes. Links are kept.
