About Compare PDFs

Compare PDFs shows what changed between two versions of a document, such as a contract after the other side's edits or a report before and after review. View the pages side by side or overlaid, with changed areas highlighted, and read a word-by-word list of what was added and removed.

Use it to compare two PDFs, find differences between document versions, or check what changed in a contract.

How to use it

  1. Choose two PDFs, the Original and the Changed version.
  2. Pick a View: Side by side or Overlay.
  3. Step through the pages; changed areas are highlighted.
  4. Read the Differences list for the exact words added and removed.

Good to know

  • Page 1 is compared with page 1, page 2 with page 2, and so on. If a page was inserted or removed, the pages after it are shifted against each other.
  • The word comparison uses the text in the PDFs, so scanned documents need OCR first.

Questions and answers

How do I find the differences between two PDFs?

Add both versions here. Changed areas are highlighted on the pages, and a list shows the words that were added or removed.

Can it compare scanned documents?

The visual comparison works on scans. For the word comparison, run OCR on both files first.

What if pages were added in the new version?

Pages are compared in order, so an added page shifts everything after it. Extract the matching pages first for a cleaner comparison.

Are the documents uploaded for comparison?

No. Both files are compared in your browser.
